Aura Child – Icon System & Visual Language
I was initially brought on to design ten icons for Aura Child, a meditation and wellness platform focused on crystals. Very soon, as we delved into the work, it became clear that those icons would only make sense if the existing visuals - icons, illustrations, and parts of the interface, were also brought into alignment. What started small evolved into a full redesign, and in a large collaborative effort, I redesigned all existing icons, reimagined illustrations, and helped establishing a UI design system to ensure cohesion across web and mobile.
What I Did
Joining mid-process, the UI and brand direction had been partially defined. The challenge was to introduce new icons without them feeling tacked on, while uplifting the visual experience everywhere.
I helped build a consistent visual system with clean outlines and soft curves inspired by natural crystal shapes. I created rules for line weight, corner treatment, spacing, so that every icon set (functional, symbolic, zodiac, planetary, moon phases, crystals, materials) felt like part of one family.
I reimagined illustrations and UI where needed, to match the icon language and amplify consistency.
Deliverables
Functional and feature icons for menus, audio controls, categories, activity types.
Over 100 crystal icons, plus materials icons and symbolic icons (zodiac signs, planetary symbols, moon phases).
Custom header illustrations, layered detail, brand color integration.
UI design refinements — ensuring icons work clearly at small sizes and integrate well within the navigation and content.
Outcome
What began as a 10-icon task evolved into a complete design system. The result was a product that felt visually immersive, consistent across every touchpoint, and far easier to expand upon. By building systems instead of one-off solutions, design doesn’t just decorate an interface, it shapes how a product grows.
