Custom Icon Set for Modern Accounting
I was commissioned to design a custom flat-style icon system for a modern accounting and financial advisory website. The brief was focused and specific: clean, geometric icons with a restrained Google Material Design influence.
Very early in the design process, it became clear that the icons couldn’t be treated as isolated visuals. Their success depended on how well they aligned with the existing brand language, layout structure, and module system.
What I Did
I joined the project with the brand and UI already established. The challenge was to introduce new icons that felt native to the interface, not layered on afterward.
Instead of designing icons one by one, I approached the work as a system from the start. I designed multiple icons in parallel to establish consistent geometry, proportions, and visual rhythm. This helped lock the style early and ensured that every icon felt related, regardless of where it appeared on the site.
The icon language was based on the sharp, clean edges of the logo, repeating square and circular brand elements and a restrained, minimal approach suitable for financial services.
Deliverables
Custom flat-style icons designed as a unified system.
Variations with and without geometric backgrounds.
Icons optimized for use within existing Figma modules.
Visual alignment with brand shapes, spacing, and layout rhythm.
Outcome
What began as a straightforward icon brief resulted in a flexible, scalable icon system tailored for a financial website. The final result feels professional without being corporate, modern without being trendy, clear, consistent, and easy to expand.
By focusing on systems rather than one-off visuals, the icons now support the product’s structure, reinforce trust, and scale effortlessly as the site grows.
